Wedding is in Galveston in May. Catholic cathedral, mid-morning. Probably should have short sleeves or else have a shrug/shawl. Any ideas or suggestions for online shopping? I've looked at ModCloth, eshakti, Victorian trading co., and Recollections. Not finding anything that really grabs my eye....

How long until somebody starts cloning the dead (e.g. kings, queens, saints, etc.)?

It seems that almost every knitting project I've even touched from last March until now is giving me fits. First there was Bigfoot at Midnight aka Penelope's Shawl. Knitting navy blue wool into a lace shawl is officially Not A Good Idea. Then I had messed up the 80s Charlotte shawl. Now I messed up the Red Rye shawl. And my herringbone socks are tricky as well.

Do I need to go make sacrifices to the knitting goddesses to restore my ability to knit peacefully and without messing things up? And if so, what type of sacrifice or rite?

Ok. So earlier yesterday I get two emails to my RL gmail account: first one that I'd set up an account w/ a nationally known housewares company, then a second email confirming my order to an address with my RL name, but not my RL address. I search the address on google: it exists. I put both emails into spam. Then I search my RL name and the address from the email, and find out much to my surprise that there is someone at that address with the same RL name as well. (The chance of this happening was roughly 10 in 314 million. Before tonight, I would have bet money that my RL name was only held by me.)

My question: do I give the other person a telephone call and let her know that the emails intended for her went to me?

I highly recommend Lucinda Brant and Rose Gordon as good romance reads (while I wait for them to write and release their next books; misery loves company, after all). Ms. Brant's novels are set in the eighteenth century (Georgian England and France); IIRC Midnight Marriage is a free ebook right now. Ms. Gordon's novels are sent in Regency England and a bit earlier (I also found one of these as a free ebook. And my bank account has paid for that since). I also recommend Elizabeth Essex's Almost a Scandal (heroine goes to sea disguised as her brother...)

I'm also looking forward to the new Lynn Kurland Nine Kingdoms book.

On the theme of misery loves company, also waiting to see when Jean Johnson, Linnea Sinclair, Robin Owens and Ysabeau Wilce will release their next books....

Enjoyed Sarah Rees Brennan's Unspoken quite a bit as well. Now waiting to see what happens in the next book.

(And David Drake is working on a new Cinnabar novel as well. That is a fandom where I don't know whether to embrace the canon of Daniel Leary/Miranda Dorst or still go with my personal ship of Daniel Leary/Adele Mundy. Miranda is a great character [smart, competent, practical] and I'd say she could do better than Daniel's womanizing, but I also really, really love the idea of Daniel seriously pissing off his father and making amends to Adele by marrying her and fathering the next generation of Mundys of Chatsworth)

Yes, when you apply for a US patent, you do have to disclose all your related publications to the USPTO. And if the examiner can turn up the publication in google scholar with a keyword/author combined search, it's probably related...

So I placed an order on Barnes & Noble last night, and some of the books I ordered are in print and some of them are not yet published. The order is going to ship *after* the last book is published, in November!!! Should I try to contact them to get them to send the current books out to me?

Aargh, so I was confused in my last entry and got the title of the newest Wilce book wrong. And I liked it, however it leaves far too many loose ends IMAO to be the proper ending of a trilogy. So now I have to wait for the next one...

(and there will be spoilers in comments)

Just picked it up from the library tonight. Finished it and now I have to wait for the sequel...

My Bigfoot shawl: one section with way more than 16 stitches. (I think a marker fell out as I was starting the body stitches)

a new washcloth (crochet with bobbles); not a multiple of 30 stitches anymore all of a sudden.

I'm afraid to pick up anything more complicated than my simple Lucy Neatby sock (and with the way things are going, I'll find a mistake in that tomorrow when I'm working on it during my commute)

Very irritated w/ my mother right now -- one of my great-uncles died, I'd like to get back there for the funeral (and see all the relatives from my dad's side of the family), and she's saying that I shouldn't bother because my brother will be in next week and it will be too much for her. Guess I know who's *her* favorite child....

So xkcd ran a cartoon a little while back (w/in the last two months or so IIRC) with the entire EM spectrum (mostly in black) on one axis (something else on the other axis, I forget which, but it was an x-y graph) and a little rainbow inset with the caption "everything you see and hear is here." and something about "compared to the rest of the universe, we are deaf and blind." And I'm having no luck on actually finding the thing...

AKICOLJ/DW: what's your favorite New Age or Latin jazz album? Preferably a) instrumental and/or b) female musicians/vocalists (yes, I have an iTunes gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket)
