I've been where you are, and trust me things do sort themselves however desperate it looks at the time (and it looks different from different perspectives - my partner realised that I was unhappy to the point of desperation with one job long before I did). Sometimes they sort themselves very much for the best (eg, things that go BOOM people turn out to love you, you turn out to love hanging with geeks who blow things up for a living, everyone patents things till all eternity) or at least they sort themselves decently for the interim (eg Bastard Git Faced Spawn of The Devil Law Firm From Hell's Evil Yankee Cousin offers you blood money and if you can hang there for a year or two you'll at least have had a berth to ride out the downturn and some scary anecdotes for dinner parties.
