Complicated women : sex and power in pre-code Hollywood. Neat look at the leading ladies of Hollywood and their roles in the movies prior to the Hays Code. (not sure where I picked up this rec -- might have been Balloon-Juice or TNC)

by Tomlinson, Heather. Great take and setting of this old fairy tale, in a setting like Moghul India. (pretty sure I picked up this rec from Larbalestier's blog)
