My parents would never go north of 36th Street South or East of Nicollet Avenue if they could possibly avoid it. Yes, I lived in Minneapolis from the middle of third grade until I went off to college and then graduate school. I still regard it as my hometown. I’ve been going back for the State Fair for the last few years, a mother-daughter outing.

And I haven’t talked to my parents by phone or FaceTime since before George Floyd was murdered, because I will go nuclear on their scaredy-cat white fragility and Trumpster Fox propaganda if I do talk to them by anything other than text.

I still don’t know what to say to them. I will probably get disowned if I let loose on them, but then again I’m ashamed of them for falling for all the right-wing nut job propaganda that Fox News and the Catholic Church have fed them, and maybe they would deserve me disowning them.

Where do I start with talking to them?
