slacking off

with myself. Should be writing a thank-you letter, and am not having any luck doing so. My brain is offi-ci-ally fried.

amusing but probably true: my brother (who shall be known as FJBT in this journal from now on) and his theory on asking patron saints for intercession. FJBT's theory is that you don't go and ask the "marquee" well-known saints like Jude and Joseph, but rather the ones who nobody asks for help anymore, because they will jump to assist. His take is that "you think the Patent Office has a backlog?" I have been putting his theory into some action, & seem to be getting some results...

(Yeah, there's been a lot of RL stuff I haven't been writing about recently, since about January, as I am paranoid about whether f-locked entries can be cracked and [livejournal.com profile] minastir even more so.)

So the weird linkage of the night:

St. Expeditus, the patron saint of procrastinators. http://saintspreserved.com/expeditus.htm
http://www.wired.com/news/roadtrip/riverroad/0,2704,65184,00.html

And Ivo/Yves/Ives of Kermartin, the patron saint of lawyers: "Sanctus Ivo erat Brito,
Advocatus, et non latro
Res miranda populo." http://www.patriarts.com/Ivo/Ivo.htm

Good heavens, another Latin Brit joke. And people think I'm projecting into the past.

Well, Ivo/Ives/Yves was from Brittany, not England, but buried in Treguier which is according to Google & Wikipedia almost right on the Channel. I bet he had cousins in England (d. in 1303)...

There are at least two St. Severuses (Severi?). The Orthodox St. Severus was a scholar and theologian, while the French St. Severus was a bishop. The latter is now the patron of silk and wool workers, believe it not - !

yep, she did bring a lot of names otu of the dustbin...although I don't think minastir would buy naming one of our kids "Severus Rudbek"

"Here lies X, a lawyer and an honest man."
"Why'd they bury two guys in the same grave?"
