Well, I wound up waking up at o-dark-thirty this morning, and have to print out yet more resumes, so I'm up. Amazing after going out with the telescope and observing Mars, the Moon, M13, and M31 again last night. It's truly amazing that my husband still remembers where the Messier objects are in the sky, after a couple of years of not T.A.'ing astronomy...and it's so nice to go out observing the night sky with him again.

Collecting yet more rejection letters. I am so tempted to say "screw this, I'm doing a job search on my own," to Career & Placement...I've been told that I'm not mean and narcissistic enough to fit into a big law firm, and that I'd do best at teaching. So off to find out more about court clerkships this weekend, and start sending those applications out. In order to teach law, I've been told that I need to do a clerkship, and then go work for a big firm for a couple of years. I like the idea of doing a clerkship, but the "big firm" idea does not appeal to me, as I've said here before.

And I get to go track down the IPLR advisor to talk about possible Comment topics. Oh joy. I've been kicking around the idea of the Wright brothers' difficulty with getting a patent on the airplane, but doing preliminary research on Lexis makes me think that it might have been done before, or that it's not a hot enough topic to be publishable in our IPLR.

Ah well, at least Ch. 34 of Vector's Challenge has been updated again at ff.net, and I finally submitted it to FAP. I finally got it to a point where I could say, "enough, let's move on to figuring out what happens next." Maybe I should submit it in the Fic Exchange as well. I want more reviews, but am too busy to give very many right now.

edited to add:

Which incarnation of the Doctor... )
Heh. I should get Mr. Rudbek to try this as well...

And finally finishing off the MPEP, and looking up federal clerkships. A lot of them want the top 10% of the class, but some are willing to go a bit lower in class rank, so I might have a snowball's chance in hell. And the Federal Circuit judges want clerks with scientific backgrounds!

And I put into the Fic Exchange once again. Hopefully, I'll get some nibbles, as I'm feeling neglected and lonely right now in terms of reviews...I miss being in classes with Brooke. I will have to talk her into taking Disability Law next semester, so that we'll have a class together.

is seriously evil. All these lovely sources pulled, and the damn card reader trips out every ten minutes, then refuses to read the copy card again. Bugger this for a game of soldiers! It's a gorgeous day here in Milwaukee, and I'm a-goin' home.

Edited to add: Grrr. Stupid card-reading system. To explain: the microfiche reader prints out copies only if there is a copy card (with a magnetic strip) inserted in a card-reading device. The card-reading device apparently has some sort of timer that starts beeping at you and rejects the card if it is left in the machine for a certain period of time without getting charged to print anything. This is all fine and dandy in practice. However, the time interval that is set in the card reader is too short to allow the user of the microfiche reader or copy machine to switch pages if there is any sort of medium-length delay to change the pages one is copying. And I, of course, being the stubborn, thick-headed wench that I am, did not give up like a sensible person and head home at three p.m., but rather stayed at it until 5:20 p.m., and then wound up missing the 5:45 bus home. And there is a baseball game at home tonight, which will only add to the delay. Oh joy. Time to write more Slytherins....

I will be going into school tomorrow to finish copying these sources. I'd better make sure I get home before the Notre Dame game tomorrow. Watching (American) football has a most cathartic effect on me. I yell and scream, and I get better grades in the fall semester. I suppose by this logic, I should take up watching hockey and boxing in the spring semester. Or maybe rugby...

Second edit: Chapter 34 of Vector's Challenge is up at FAP!! And a review already..."Vector and Snape seem to be getting nowhere. I wonder why that is?" Heh, heh, heh....
