Hello to
gramarye1971 and
icarusancalion who newly friended me. Welcome to the rambling...
Well, I wound up driving into school today, as I was busy with cleaning off desk one, desk two, and the daybed in the office, so I missed the bus. I can now see parts of the horizontal surfaces on the desks, and I have all the various materials put into piles; one for the job hunt, one for my IPLR article, one for my fanfic, one for what I should be reading and outlining for my classes, etc. I also threw out a great many papers, and I have one little (about a foot high max) pile of papers etc. to go through.
My ethics professor was giving me a hard time as usual after class, saying, "Cleaning desks off is vastly overrated, Ms. Rudbek." And I think I'm getting used to his tie/shirt combinations. Or at least today's wasn't too bad.
The advantage of driving in was that I could stop by the university library and pick up some holds. To read for various papers:
Defamation by Satellite: A European Law Perspective, David I. Fisher, about defamation claims arising from satellite TV broadcasts;
The Common Law Threesome: Libel, Slander, and the Invasion of Privacy, Malthon M. Anapol, monograph;
Variation of Intangible Assets in Global Operations, Farok J. Contractor, ed. (No, I did not make that name up.)
To read for fanfic purposes:
In Search of Wonder, Damon Knight;
Clandestine Marriage in England, 1500-1850, R.B. Outhwaite.
To do either tomorrow or Friday: stop by the Milwaukee Public Library and return my CDs and go get more for the Law School CD project. I was considering going tonight, but I'd personally feel a bit more comfortable going during daylight..silly, perhaps, as I've gone there after sunset before. But what with the time change, it "feels like" I'm going an hour later than I've been going before. Weird. Oh well.
Also, a question for the flist: I was wondering if there's any good historical source on the history of either the Cold War or the Great Game (British espionage & empire-building before WWI). I'm interested in using it as inspiration for
Three-Body Problem, the original work I've currently got buried in the Prop Box, what with truth being stranger than fiction and all...Any ideas?
