kaylarudbek: Justice seated in the heavens with open eyes and an uplifted sword (LOTR)
Hello to [livejournal.com profile] versaphile who newly friended me. I am now starting to branch back out into the Doctor Who fandom. Minneapolis in the 1980s, Tom Baker and Peter Davison on KTCA-Channel Two, the local PBS station; ah, the memories of youth. Well, if I wind up working for a fancy firm, I will have the money to start collecting DVDs and videos. Of course, then I will not have the time to watch them...

I am getting started on the big to-do list from Friday afternoon. Slowly but surely, I will be responsible about it, and it will all get done somehow. To further that, I think I will send Mr. Rudbek to the library to pick up my hold on the newest David Drake book. Library = huge timesink for me, NOT a place to get work done. "Addicted to the printed page," that's me.

[livejournal.com profile] melannen and I are now signed up for the obscure fandoms secret santa. This looks seriously cool. [livejournal.com profile] dien, I don't see you on the list yet....and somebody else is willing to write E.R. Eddison fic.!

I am in a good mood, but feeling rather wiped physically, and I'm not entirely sure why. I need a nap. I was going to go to bed early last night, but then my brother called, so of course I had to talk to him for a while. His roommates asked who he was giving the hard time to, if he was talking to me, and he said, "Yes, of course, I'm talking to my sister; who else would I be so abusive/disrespectful to?" Sample remark from him about interview suits: "I suppose that as a patent lawyer, you have to dress like a bit of a nerd. You have to look both professional and like a nerd." My reply: "Of course. How else do you think I'm going to get the inventors to trust me?" (The remark was triggered by my telling him that I wore a midnight navy suit, with white blouse and cream-colored, blue polka-dot scarf to the interview in Detroit. I have been told by classmates that it looked sharp.) He is also interviewing, and bought himself a gray suit, and a red "power tie".

It is darn cold here today in Wisconsin, with a projected high of 34 degrees Fahrenheit, so about 1 degree Celsius or so, IIRC my conversions correctly. The sun is shining, and I have to go out at some point to take care of the dry cleaning. I should go for a walk at some point as well, as I am gaining weight.

Off I go to get some things accomplished this afternoon. Hopefully Notre Dame will beat the ring-knockers from the school on the Severn this afternoon....unlike this projection.

I was trying to listen to some music this afternoon, and I discovered that a substantial chunk of the music I thought I had imported into iTunes on November 2nd was significantly messed up. As in, the computer puts it into the Library, but when I go to play it, I get silence for the whole song. And I checked one of the discs I had imported some of the music from, and I could play it in iTunes. Is this because I was importing one song and playing a different song at the same time? And it was a lot of music, too...sigh. Oh well, something to do whilst I outline, etc. this weekend. And now none of the numbers of songs are showing up in the main Library. Sigh.

And MS Word is indeed a product of the Antichrist. It has locked up big-time twice this afternoon, to the point where NONE of the regular force quit methods worked. I wound up killing process IDs that basically shut down every single program I was running and rebooted or relaunched the Desktop as well. Blue Screen of Shutdown, little dashes arranged in the circle going round-and-round. I want Corel WordPerfect back, I want Corel WordPerfect back, I want Corel WordPerfect back...if Steve Jobs really wanted to make serious inroads into the legal market, all he would have to do is get Corel WordPerfect to come out with a version for the Mac. Then he could get everyone who deals with the federal courts to switch.

And ND is tied with Navy right now...eek! Must run! Edited to add: A true nail-biter. It was tied up at the last 5 seconds, and a freshman walk-on kicks a field goal to win it for Notre Dame. Forty years of tradition, now, and nuts to Sports Illustrated! And reimporting the music is working as well!

Hmm. I am seriously tempted to go on yet another wild friending spree, but I think I'd best restrain myself until after finals are over. If there are people lurking & reading my LJ and you want to add me as a friend, feel perfectly free to. I'll come over and I just might friend you back. If you lurk but you don't want to friend me, that's okay too. I know I am quite the frequent poster...."Squeeze the lawyer to get her to shut up."

Many things to do this weekend. I finally pulled the physical chemistry textbooks that I need to make a list of for one of the lawyers I interviewed with. Then I need to go look and see if segment length was what I told him it was....I need to read more hard sciences, I seriously do, to get back up to speed again after almost three years of law school. Macromolecules, among other things....

Looking at course registration material, as the seminar/workshop/clinic/supervised fieldwork sign-ups are due Monday. I told my brother last night, "This is weird. This is the last time I'll ever have to sign up for classes." He retorted, "And how many times have you said that in your academic career?" I cracked up.

Workshops I'll sign up for: Patent Prosecution; Negotiation; Starting & Managing a Law Practice. Seminars I'll sign up for: Trademark & Unfair Competition. I'd like to try for the Truth and Falsehood; Law and the Visual Arts seminars, but they conflict with classes that I must or should take. Sigh. Oh well. Clinics and fieldwork I'll put in for: Mediation; Legal Aid Society; USDA Office of the General Counsel; Legal Action of Wisconsin. None of these are guaranteed, and the clinics/fieldwork require a resume.
