when you keep on having to restrain yourself from shouting out "obBujold" at your brother-in-law's wedding. The Babas: my mother-in-law and her friend proposing to set up a dating-service business as "Matchmaker Moms." Echos of Count Piotr and Aral: my mother-in-law telling the eldest brother-in-law that as long as his potential bride could stand up, that would be acceptable. (Personally, I think the eldest brother-in-law needs a woman who's a cross between administrative assistant and Marine drill sergeant. Where we are going to find a woman with these experiences under the age of oh, 35 or so is beyond me...)
And then of course there were Pratchett references as well. The older relatives (& minastir) grumbling about who was there, who was invited, who wasn't invited, "weddings are for family, not friends," etc., and here I am thinking about Nanny Ogg. Me telling my sister-in-law that my goal is to be a terrible old woman and a formidable battle-axe....
The next Rudbek (in-laws) wedding will be sometime in 2010-2011 if the current trend holds.
