the Catholic thing tonight, and knitting
Apr. 7th, 2008 10:32 pmBook rec: God's Mechanics, Br. Guy Consolmagno, S.J. I am going to go buy this book! I swear that he is going to invent the Cathodean Order, a few centuries ahead of time.
And I would have thought that I'd turn out an Ignatian Exercises Catholic (I suppose what I was taught about purgatory, plus liking Gregorian chant vs. vernacular hymns & spirituals tipped the balance...)

Progress of the knitting: Finished the Lopi vest that has kicked my ass thoroughly since before Christmas. It appears to fit me, with 0.25 oz of yarn left before I weave in and cut off ends, and add clasps/fasteners. If it does not fit me, I have a skinny aunt in the Upper Midwest, and my brother has a skinny girlfriend. Have an idea for the two skeins of purple Lopi I have (a bag from Knitting with Beads by Jane Davis, only eliminating the beads). Pi-are-square shawl -- I keep on looking at it and thinking it's too dense and I should frog and restart on size 9 instead of size 4. It seems that since this is the Year of the Frog, I should go ahead and rip it out and start again, as that would make the third attempt (and third time pays for all).
the most recent idiocies of the USPTO: http://www.patenthawk.com/blog/2008/04/another_day_another_pilot.html The invitations are probably going to go to the Establishment in DC, and/or the Establishment on the West Coast. The older I get, the more I become convinced that the so-called "top-tier" law schools do not do as good of a job teaching what the law is than the so-called "third-tier" schools.
