the job hunt progress, entry no. 3
Sep. 10th, 2008 11:14 pmOkay, now I have finally hit my daily target (which is 95 resumes through today). I'm starting to submit to the local Biglaw firms despite my fear of layoffs etc., as in my particular field and location, I think that Biglaw is trying to expand its presence (at least at the moment). The worst they can say is no, (or maybe yes and then I get sucked into working for the real Dark Side).
So far: 2 phone interviews done, one in-person interview scheduled, one phone interview scheduled, some others possibly interested, one place really wants to talk to me but is afraid that I may be conflicted out, and one consulting gig tomorrow. The Old Man thinks I should charge at least $300/hour for consulting, as he says that the lawyers he deals with in the Heartland(tm) are charging $265/hour and they're not specialists on the West Coast. I will start at $300 and then be ready to drop down to $200 if they really, really scream (or I may be willing to take stock options, as they are a startup and so thin on cash most likely).
Debating: waking up (self and spouse) at oh-dark-thirty to go to an alumni tech breakfast. Plus: good networking chances. Minus: what the heck do I do until the gig then?
