So I was talking w/ my friend B (WNLJ) tonight, and I was wondering:
1) would there be any sort of a market for stories where the Evil Overlord and his Empress are the heroes/heroines of the story? i.e. where the Hero/ine decides out of sheer frustration that they're going to Take Over The Earth And Run It Right And Proper From Now On? Because that's the type of story that I'm really hungering to write right now (yes, I know it's Mary-Sue wish fulfillment of aa particularly Nomad/Reactive type.) (B. and I both independently arrived at the idea of fanfic/foefic of the Skylark series, with Blackie DuQuesne and Stephanie de Marigny as the hero and heroine) [and I'm now seeing Dr. de Marigny as mixed-race from New Orleans for some strange reason -- she's described as "sallow" & with "that hair" and "that shape"]. Of course, I suppose there would be copyright issues (which would be publicity so hey, maybe not all that bad?

2) And now that I see that on the screen, I suppose that from some perspectives, some of Baen's mil-sf authors could be viewed as doing the whole Evil Overlord-as-Hero thing.

3) I think that this will go over to Dreamwidth, but in case it doesn't, I'll post it over there as well. I'll probably still be defaulting to LJ first when I scan my reading list, but I'm very glad to have a backup in case LJ gets hosed or becomes too untrustworthy to stick around.

4) Sick and tired of slamming my head and heart and soul against titanium walls. I am so burned out on this whole job hunt thing that I just want to throw in the towel for a quarter or so. And I heard on the news that the USPTO is starting layoffs. Eric Idle needs to add Jon Dudas to the FCC Song.

5) However, I did read a bio of Lillian Moller Gilbreth, Making Time this past week that was really great. She and her husband were pioneers in industrial engineering (industrial psychology, efficiency studies, ergonomics, etc.) and had 13 children (11 of whom grew up to be adults). More at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lillian_Gilbreth. Your probable cultural reference to her is as the mother in Cheaper By the Dozen. Also recently read: Generation of Vipers; Lies My Teacher Told Me; the Attolia series by Megan Whalen Turner.
