Well, I am back in town after a proper vacation. Note to self: never, never schedule interviews for the day after Labor Day, or even two days after, as Murphy's Law will kick in. I had to do one interview from the hotel room at oh-dark-thirty am; the other interview with employer who invents things that go BOOM has been shifted from phone to on-site and delayed until a week from today.

The goal of sending out 5 resumes/day has almost been achieved (still have to do 7 more today to hit the goal for the past two weeks). I've been sending out everywhere from Boston to CA...

One of the more notorious/famous law firms in town has my resume now and wanted my transcripts. I suppose that if they call me to interview, I will do it, but they are part of the 94% of law firms that give the other 6% a bad name.

Very, very best wishes and fingers crossed. I've been where you are, and trust me things do sort themselves however desperate it looks at the time (and it looks different from different perspectives - my partner realised that I was unhappy to the point of desperation with one job long before I did). Sometimes they sort themselves very much for the best (eg, things that go BOOM people turn out to love you, you turn out to love hanging with geeks who blow things up for a living, everyone patents things till all eternity) or at least they sort themselves decently for the interim (eg Bastard Git Faced Spawn of The Devil Law Firm From Hell's Evil Yankee Cousin offers you blood money and if you can hang there for a year or two you'll at least have had a berth to ride out the downturn and some scary anecdotes for dinner parties.

D.V. will see you at INTA in Seattle next May.

Well, it would be a nice steady job, and I would probably be patenting things for all eternity with them, or until I was RIFed or left, whichever came first. Although the Number 2 told me flat out that they already had interviewed other good candidates in person with much more experience than me, so I have at very best a 1 in 3 chance, and then we'd have to relocate across the entire continent.

Bastard Git Faced Spawn of The Devil Law Firm From Hell's Evil Yankee Cousin That reminds me, I should probably put in at a few more firms, although a fair amount of them would probably be reluctant because I've already jumped in-house once already. At least that's what one recruiter I put in with indicated.

At this point, and reviewing the lack of training I currently have, I'm not sure whether I'd be better off back at a law firm or not, in order to see whether I could get anything more out of it (e.g. draft more applications, or else switch into doing litigation).

Hopefully I will see you at INTA in Seattle, if I have a job and can convince the employer to send me out (or maybe I'll be working in Seattle -- who knows at this point?)
