meme spammage: survived the first week
Apr. 23rd, 2006 11:14 pmHave survived the first week on the job so far. I walked into messes both literal (condition of my office) and metaphorical (playing catchup with & untangling what previous counsel [who used to work at my former law firm] did). I have my new business cards (v. colorful and spiffy) and my office and a cubicle in the other building so I can go hunt down engineers for disclosures and signatures.
This weekend: attended baby shower for one of the brothers-in-law. My niece will be smothered in affection from all of us. Disconcerting: the inevitable questions about when
minastir and I will have kids. Fortunately, I can say "not until he's done with grad school" and then plot to send him to the UC for a Ph.D. or MBA, as a balance to the rather conservative outlook he's picking up in his current program. Spontaneous trip out to the coast/ocean/beach after the baby shower. I love the feel of walking on the sand in my flip-flops.
Went out with minastir today to go look at condos/townhouses. I honestly don't know if it makes more sense to buy or to rent. In terms of equity & tax breaks, it may make more sense to buy (particularly because we could start itemizing professional expenses). In terms of getting money's worth, we'd be paying more for less space. Somebody needs to invent the Star Trek transporter -- I could buy a house in the Midwest and work in California simultaneously.
Also good: my brother JBFT called tonight. Some of his comments: "you can get a 3-person tent in California for $400K," "the static's so bad it's like talking to the Mars Explorer," etc.
Contemplating switching my LJ appearance to the Christopher Eccleston

doctorwho made. Link is stored in my memories -- trying to decide if it'd be too much of a hassle as it's rather image-heavy. OTOH, Christopher Eccleston.
