I just finished off Robin Owens' latest installment in her Celta romance series. It was well worth ordering it online. If you like McCaffrey's Pern or Lackey's Valdemar, give this a try. (goes back to the first re-read)
Funnily enough, I just got done rereading A Companion to Wolves, by Elizabeth Bear and Sarah Monette, and going on to its sequel which came out yesterday. This pair of books is a lot like the Dragonriders of Pern -- aside from having giant wolves instead of dragons, and being set in an analogue to pre-Christian Scandinavia rather than on an alien planet, and with the warriors and wolves bonding to fight trolls and occasional wyverns rather than a vicious alien fungus or whatever it was Thread was supposed to be. (I just added the first of the Celta books to my Amazon wishlist.) ETA: Though if I'm reccing the Wolfheallan books -- and I am -- I feel compelled to warn that they took the noncon implications from the Dragonriders series regarding dragon matings and really took a good hard look at the implications.
