A bit of a slight headache tonight due to lack of sleep and an excess of beer and heat.

Went out biking with my husband, on our single bikes -- first time in quite a while. It's like going from riding in an SUV to driving a Ferarri, due to the weird geometry of my bike. We went around the lakes and out on some of the new commuter trails. Then we stopped by the Lake Harriet Rose Garden. It was absolutely beautiful -- still a lot of roses in bloom.

Finally got through all the reviews from my fangirls on FAP. They are drawing fanart and trying to predict graphically when the next chapter of Vector's Challenge will come out. I wish they'd let my Muse know so She would enlighten me a bit...sigh. I am almost at the point where I am just going to take the missal and start writing the Sunday scenes from looking at the Mass readings...and I am seriously starting to think about seeing if Earthlink has webspace that I could archive the story and art on...

Went out shopping with Mom at Paperback Exchange and then at a used-clothing store. I found many Ray Bradbury books, and I decided to take a daring step and try some authors I haven't read before. Will Shetterly, John Maddox Roberts, etc...I also found a new suit, a very nice one. The only problem is that instead of being blue or gray, it is a dark green. It will probably be reserved for "I want to look different from the other lawyers on the team when I give the client the bad news." Ah well, at least I have some new silk blouses and scarves to wear for interviews. Trying to talk Mom into going to watch POTC; I told her last night that we could go and lech over Johnny Depp.

I would seriously love it if on [livejournal.com profile] nocturne_alley, [livejournal.com profile] potions_master had to visit Minneapolis, St. Paul, Milwaukee, or Washington, D.C. But at least he visited Chicago, so as a Midwesterner to the bone, I'll have to be content with that.

The Old Man is barbecuing. I need a shower, and I am hungry.

Edited to add: I think that [livejournal.com profile] isiscolo just friended me. Who here can remember the site that tells you who's friended you in the last x days?

Invoke me and I appear.

http://marnanel.org/joule is the site you want, easily found via the lj site map in case you don't want to bookmark it.

Anyway, I've been reading your lj off and on for a while, but I'm experimenting with filters and friendsgroups. We'll see how it goes.

Thank you for the link! It's fun to read your LJ as well -- and I am starting to experiment with filters and friendsgroups as well.

EarthLink: I think it depends on which plan you signed up on. The one I have lists 8 email addresses and 10MB webspace for each address.

*looks at site and winces*

You could put a lot o' writing on 10MB.

Hmm. How much art can one put on 5-7 MB? I am not a visual artist, so I have no clue about these things...I am an old fogey.

Heck, my favorite and much-admired suit is two shades softer than electric blue, but then I'm one of them trial lawyers.

What Shetterly?

Will Shetterly's Cats have No Lord. The title sounded neat, and it had a little blurb from Steven Brust, so I decided to give it a try. I also found American Gods, The Toynbee Convector by Bradbury, Grimmer than Hell by David Drake, some more Majipoor from Robert Silverberg, etc.

I could have spent a lot more of my mother's money in there than I did, but (1) I only have so much shelf space; (2) classes start Monday, and I already have assignments; (3) I have not updated my list of what I own in quite some time; (4) it is my general policy not to buy a book unless I have read it from the library or at the bookstore already, and I simply can't stand the thought of not having it in my hot greedy little hands whenever I want it. I tend to bend (4) for authors I know, like and follow.

IMO, _Cats Have No Lord_ is not at all his best, but then I dislike the plot they were in. (The Bordertown [urban fantasy] YAs _Elsewhere_ and _Nevernever_, and the fantasy novel _Dogland_, are all very good.)

Hmm. I don't know yet if I'm doing patent prosecution or patent litigation. Patent prosecution = talk to inventors and argue with the Patent Office. Patent litigation = go to court (if it doesn't settle.) A lot of firms seem to be going toward "business casual," so maybe a dark green suit would not be so out of place in an environment like that. But of course, I grew up reading Molloy and as a Midwesterner, so my ideas of Proper Attire For the Office are not in sync with what I see my younger classmates wearing for job interviews...

Oh, business casual or no business casual, you always want to build up a good reserve of suits, and I can't imagine anyone but the most hidebound 100-year-old judge thinking dark green is inappropriate under any circumstances.
