Whoo-whee. I printed out four copies of the article for the other editors, three copies of the sources list, distributed all these in the appropriate places, and then had Ethics class. Got the information from the ethics professor that if I want to be a law professor, I have to do a clerkship and then go work for a big law firm for a couple of years. Sigh. The clerkship would be okay if I could find one, but I'm not really "big law firm" material. And then I picked up the charts from Career & Placement about firms and deadlines, etc. So I have to apply for firms & clerkships NOW, as in "by Friday NOW."

And I have classes tomorrow, and I'm tired and stressed and not going to get anything done this weekend, so I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off. And I can't figure out how to print out cases in pdf format on Westlaw...sigh. First meeting for IPLR tomorrow, and I should get some of my questions answered then. I'll have to get in early tomorrow and on Friday to get everything done.

The fangirls have asked for more Vector's Challenge, or else they'll start posting their own fanfics of it...
I will have to start posting the cookies that I'm noodling on and trying to figure out what goes in what order over at FAP.

And I really, really need to go swimming to loosen up my aching muscles. At least A.J. Hall's newest work will be coming out soon, and then I have Drake and Bujold to look forward to this October...

If you have the slightest interest in working for a big firm, apply for the summer associateships. Most of them only hire from their summer associate lists, and even the other firms tend to ask, "So where were you summer associate?"

Ah, see, this is where I am officially screwed/buggered six ways from Sunday. I'm a 3L, and I could not find a summer associate position this past summer. No luck, zilch, nada. So I studied for Patent Bar instead. It may be the USPTO for me for a couple of years, until I have enough experience that the headhunters would get interested...

Ahhhhh. Didn't realize you were a 3L. Should've, but didn't. :) Still, the Patent Bar opens a lot of doors. Not a ton of folks take (and pass ;)) that.

I'm not really "big law firm" material

Big law firms are hell-holes, and the training they give is, in many respects, markedly worse than smaller firms whose partners and associates have more time for the trainees, but dropping the name can be useful in later years

That's what I've gathered; that the big firms chew associates up and spit them out. There are some firms like that that I know of in Milwaukee. There are some firms that are nationally known in the U.S. legal community who pride themselves "on being assholes."

I'm wondering if the USPTO would be preferable. Granted, I'd be an overworked underpaid civil servant, but it would give me useful experience, and after a few years, I could leave and have that on the resume...
